A native of Vienna Austria, Wolfgang Dosch studied trumpet, voice, acting, opera directing, theatre studies, musicology, and cultural management.
After completing his studies, Wolfgang Dosch made his solo debut as a singer in the Raimund Theatre (Vienna, Austria). Specializing in comic and later character roles (e.g. the king in „The King and I“), he has performed more than 70 roles in more than 2,000 shows with repertoire ranging from the Middle Ages to modern day and spanning the stages of opera, operetta, musical and drama. He debuted the leading role in the world premiere of „NOVENCENTO - The Legend of the Ocean Pianist “(based on the book by A. Baricco), a musical written for him by composer Charles Kalman. During the Vienna Festival of 1982, he also starred in the world premiere of Friedrich Cerha’s „Netzwerk“ at the Theater an der Wien.
Wolfgang Dosch has also directed more than 70 operas, operettas and musicals in significant theatres in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. From 1991 to 2003 he worked both as singer and dramaturg in the Staatsoperette Dresden.
Wolfgang Dosch has also directed in such prominent festivals such as the Vienna Festival, Salzburg Festival, Operetta Festival Mörbisch, Lehár Festival Bad Ischl, Dresden Music Festival, Warsaw Autumn and Athene Festival. He has toured throughout Europe and Japan, performing in television, radio and the making of CD productions.
He has conducted musicological research for the Wiener Volksoper, Jewish Museum Vienna, Johann Strauss Gesellschaft Deutschland, Internationale Franz Lehár Gesellschaft and various international publications.
He is one of the most acknowledged directors and specialists for operetta of our times.

Wolfgang Dosch is professor in both programs of the Academic Classical Operetta and Masters Opera and Drama at the Music And Arts University of the City of Vienna. Additionally, he held masterclasses in Europe and Japan and has been active as juror in numerous international competitions.

Composers have been inspired by texts to compose their songs, arias, and scenes.　Thus, we at first turn our attention to the content, meaning, and presentation of text in musical works. The process of bringing music to life, with consideration of characteristics of mood, psychological elements, and mental state of the characters, requires intensive reflection and an intentional yet flexible presentation of text, fine vocal technique, phrasing, colouring and expressive acting. Every interpretation conjures up mental images which are crucial to assisting in the body in finding its way through a musical work. We draw upon our ability to fantasize, beginning with breathing-in the first images of a phrase and ending with the final reflection of the last thought of the last phrase. The blueprint of a piece, ie. how thoughts, emotions, and situations change and develop in the course of the song, aria and scene needs to be carefully planned through well-thought out vocal and acting transitions, which are artistically true to the material being performed and give the performer(s) the opportunity to clearly communicate their intentions.
Our (vocal and scenic) interpretation is an artistic performance of human characters and situations.
