Eva Blahová

Eva Blahová is one of the best European singing masters. She was born in what is now the Slovak Republic, studied at the Academy of Music in Bratislava with doc. Anna Hrušovská, then at the Academy of Musical Arts in Vienna (songs and oratorio). She experienced her debut with the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra in 1965, then performed in many countries in Europe, Asia, the United States and Canada. She also recorded numerous LPs and CDs with Supraphon and Opus Music Publishing.

Her teaching career began at the Academy of Music in Bratislava in 1969, and since 1989 she has worked on the international scene as a visiting professor and a juror at many international competitions. She has led master classes in Austria (Wienermusikseminar), Canada, Croatia, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Portugal, Italy, Japan, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Switzerland and the United States. During the years 2002 – 2007 she worked as a visiting professor at the University of Turku (Finland), and during 2005 – 2008 as a vocal consultant at the Opera House Den Norske in Oslo (Norway).
In the Czech Republic, Poland, Italy and Belgium she worked for the prestigious European Mozart Foundation. In the Czech Republic she founded the Prague festival “Opera Stars of Tomorrow” and also co-operated with the famous Slovak tenor Peter Dvorský at the International Music Festival in Jaroměřice. In the years 2002 – 2008 she was a member of the artistic jury at the Prague Spring Festival and since 2005 she has been a board member of the National Theatre.

In the Slovak Republic she initiated the International Lucia Popp Competition, she is a founder of the European Days Festival in Bratislava (1997 – 2003) and since 2008 she has also been a member of the Bratislava Music Festival. Since 2001 she has been a member of the festival Committee of the Central European Music Festival in Žilina, and since 2004 a professor at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica. She has been a president of the International Vocal Competition of Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský in Trnava since 1994 and has now been appointed a visiting professor at the Academy of Music in Krakow. 
Besides numerous awards she was also awarded an honorary certificate (Wienermusikseminar 2005), the Woman of the Year 2006 award (The American Biographical Institute 2006), and in Slovakia the Woman of the 21st 
In 2010 she received two national awards: In January the second Degree National Award of Ľudovít Štúr II. from the President of the Slovak Republic; in December “Das Goldene Ehrenzeichen für Dienste um Republik Österreich” from the President of the Republic of Austria. Her most famous student is the Czech mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená, with whom she still works, and among the other pupils are the Polish tenor Piotr Beczala, Gustav Beláček, Peter Berger,Michal Century award. Lehotsky, Dubravka Musovic, Martina Zadro and the rising Croatian star, mezzo-soprano Renata Pokupić ,Lada Biriukov,Anna Wierzbicka, Tomoko Masuda,Takuya Fujita, Kimiko Hata,Yuko Oba,Mitsuyo Okamoto,Kaisa Ranta,Emilia Vesalainen,Stanislav Matis,Marian Vojtko. 
October 2011 she received from president of Finland H. E. Mrs. Tarja Halonen, the decoration of Knight, First Class, of the Order of the Lion of Finland. In the season 2011/12 is she in function of opera chef of National theatre Brno in Czech republic.
